the contrast ratio is more relevant with HD transmission and since in India most of the channels are transmitted digitally and no HD channels , whereas in US most of the channels are HD where the contrast ratio is relevant
regarding choice SAMSUNG is in LCD manufacturing for sometime and also has got better service setup ( i am not sure about PANASONIC, quality wise PANASONIC is no less)
