I know you can unlock phones to use on other providers networks. I have an old motorola slvr l7 and I want to get the unlock code so that I can use it on tmobile. I tried calling cingular and they said its against their policy basically to unlock a phone to use with another carrier. So what do I do? I payed for the phone way back when it first came out, and I was a customer for them for just short of two years. Where else can I get this subsidy code?????

Call customer service and tell them you will be traveling abroad (overseas) and you need the unlock code for this purpose. They will give it to you.

that's ridiculous, try to speak to the manager, if that doesn't work, get a new provider!

Hey!!!I've been told that Cingular will give you a code to unlock your phone. A friend of mine said she did. She had the L7 and needed to use it with SunCom. I'm not sure what she told them, but they did. If Cingular won't let up, try looking for a store that sale everything. Like in my town we have a store called Lawsons, to wear they sale, cell phones, car tvs, car stereos, tvs, everything you can think of and they unlock phones for $20. I'm not sure what you would call that kind of store. You also could try going to a flea market, if they have people out there that sale cell phones, chances are they unlock phones also. I'm not sure if Moto will unlock it for you.Hope I've helped and hope you get everything taken care of.Take care!!

i assume your contract using that phone has expired & you were in good standing. wireles carriers are by law required to unlock or provide you with an unlock code for your phone. generally you may request this after several months into your contract.call them back & if told it is against their policy , ask them is it also their policy to violate federal law.
