I live in Michigan and yes Comcast is a little expensive but I'm completely happy with their service.
My experience was this.. I use the Comcast triple play in my home. (Phone, Cable and Internet). The phone saved me about $50 a month alone from using ATT. I was already paying for cable from comcast. When I got the internet I debated with using either the comcast triple or the ATT Bundled Services at the time.
The short answer:
Comcast is more expensive but they offer up to 12MB service, this is up and down. I have almost the same speed at home as I do at my job, I can play games wirelessly, such as WOW, COD4, and my kids are playing wirelessly on their console games and laptops at the same time and it all goes off without slowness. The cable has no issues and my phone is crystal clear. ATT make darn telephones and I always had phone trouble with their service. All that cleared up when I switched to Comcast.
ATT however doesn't provide that type of speed. At least I can say they don't provide it in MI. ATT does offer different classes of service which are all slower than Comcast for different rates. The ATT fastest speed plan is slower that Comcast in my area and is more expensive.
Usage, my sister-in-law has ATT internet service with the Uverse setup and it sucks. Internet is choppy and the digital service blinks out occasionally. I'm not impressed with the ATT solution, in MI it sucks!
I would suggest you get comcast, triple play and try it out. Then if you are still curious about the ATT solution switch and try to get a nice deal from switching from comcast. If you aren't pleased with ATT service switch back.
I believe that comcast will give you more enjoyment then having to deal with ATT.
