i got a blackberry pearl for christmas and i put my sim in to use it it has always said data connection refused is that something to do with my sim card, the phone itself, or is it something you can change in the options

A Blackberry requires both phone service and data service from your cell provider to use all of the features. The data service is used for email and internet access. The phone service is used for texting and phone conversations.If you didn't have a data plan before, that could be the problem. If you had a data plan, your service provider may have different settings in a Blackberry than other smartphones. You can call 611 and they should be able to tell you what's wrong and how to fix it.

You probably have to sign up for Blackberry and/or data service with your mobile operator. Give them a call and find out.
