Can someone share with me how to forward a regular text message with the HTC Touch...

...phone please? I see the option to forward but it's not selectable. I also don't understand why I can't send photos to other handsets and why there are no emoticons and smileys? Is there something separate I need for this? Thanks for all your expertise! :-)
