...need a router? i read alot of the answers and some say that all you need is the ethernet cable but then some say you need the router can you play online against others without a router?what is the router for? cause im really confused.i've been trying to do this online gaming for a while but cant figure it out.

I don't know about your modem, but most modems only have one ethernet port. So to play, your going have to take the cable that connects to your computer and connect the xbox 360 to everytime. All you need is the ethernet cable, connect it from the modem to the 360 and you can go online. The router is just for if you buy a wireless lan adapter and want to use the 360 online in a different room than where your modem is.
