Getting an unlock code for Nokia 6300 from Orange?

Is it possible to get an unlock code for the Nokia 6300 by calling Orange? I am on pay as you go. I don't want to take it to a shop to get it unlocked because they probably need to completely reformat the phone and I will loose all my messages and I can't back them up.

Yes you can get the unlock code by calling Orange however unlocking the phone would be exactly the same as taking it to a market shop and unlocking it which won't reformat the phone.Remember once the handset is unlocked it will invalidate your warranty.

If it's locked to orange you should be able to ask orange for the unlock code (there will be a fee) then you need to put it in code entry mode. Take care though when you ring up that you get the unlock code, unfortunately their call centre is not UK based so the operators may think you want a PUK or PAC instead
