How can I make my Audiovox DVD player play?

I have the thing that connects to the wall and to the cigarette lighter so, do I need the big battery that connects to the back in order to play it in the car ?

If you have the player I'm thinking of, you only need to plug it into your cigarette lighter to give it the power needed to watch your DVDs.The thing that connects to the wall should be a 12v power inverter that you can use at home to watch DVDs in the comfort of your house.
