Default Can I upgrade my Mitac Laptop ?

I bought a Mitac 6133 laptop about 7 years ago and it has given excellent service, although my wireless connection is a plug in card, but it has CD, infra-red etc. Mitac say that it cannot take an operating system beyond 'Millenium' because the BIOS cannot be upgraded, and now Ad-aware have stopped offering internet protection. I would like my daughter to get some use out of it. Do I have to admit defeat now or is there anything I can do to extend its life ?

You could probably install one of the less resource-heavy Linux distros like PuppyLinux (http://www.puppylinux.org/home ) or Damn Small Linux (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ ). You can then use Wine (http://www.winehq.org/ ) to run any Windows applications you need to use. It might be a bit confusing at first but there are forums and sites with info on pretty much everything Linux-related.

Here's a little more information about running Windows vs Linux, as if you weren't given enough to read already
