Default I have a girl dog I am going to mate with my boy dog. How long until I have...

...puppies if I mate them later today They are both over 1 year old.I said that they are over 1 years old. I didnt say the age. they might even be over 18 years old. what is the legal age to mate dogs is my second question.they are papillons. both of them. i have papers on them both. the male is 3 years old and the female is 2 years and 9 months. they aren't from the same kennel.p.s. i'm not going to sell them to make money. i would like to breed them because they are really smart and i trained them to be really good dogs. i will probably give the puppies away to friends and family who like my dogs and keep one that i will teach how to do a backflip because these ones are having a hard time learning that trick.

I think the carrying of pups is around 9 weeks but I'm not sure - I think you should get in a proffesional breeder and not mate them until they are around 2 years old because otherwise they will most likely abondon the pups or not no what to do.Don't breed them until you no the facts i.e don't breed them today!

it takes 9 weeks for them to have there pups then another 6 or 8 before you can sell them and you should not breed your dog if its first time going into heat

You shouldn't!!!They are far too young, you don't state the breed or the relationship to eachother either....If you don't know the answer to a question like that, you should contact the breeder you got them from for advice!!

After reading your Q&A's you seem genuine..You should NOT mate your dogs, whilst she is in heat they should be seperated - do you even know what 'heat' is?Dogs should be at least 2 years of age - the age in which they are mentally and physically capable of having a litter and the age when they can get all the appropriate testing to ensure they'll produce healthy puppies. If you breed your dogs you will end up with either a dead female dog due to your stupidity and ignorance or puppies that you have no idea about how to look after. Breeding requires a lot of planning, tons of research and money. You don't deserve to own dogs if all you're looking for is to breed irresponsibly, DANGEROUSLY and for profit. Dog breeding isn't a business. Get your dogs spayed and neutered. If you were intending on breeding your dogs properly you should not need to ask on here as you would show your dogs and have met people from breed clubs. You'd also have looked at getting a breeding mentor but I don't know of anyone that would mentor someone with young, untested, unshown dogs (are they even the same breed?). Gestation period is one of the most simple breed questions - I'm 18 (and obviously not a breeder myself) and i know the answer. 59 - 63 days.EDIT: What a load of bull. If your dogs were 3 and almost 3 years old you'd say 'almost 3 years old' not 'over 1 year old'.You have no business breeding.EDIT #2: Breeding your dogs because you think they are smart is not a good enough reason. Most dogs can be smart if trained correctly. My 17 week old Shih Tzu puppy I'd consider smart but I'm not going to breed him because that would be ridiculous and i don't want to add to the dog overpopulation. Are you in America? Search 'dogsindanger' in Google and a site will come up showing dogs in shelters that have very few days to live (even ones under 6 months of age) due to lack of space. These dogs are dogs from people like you.

They need to be 2 years old before mating them.Use the next year to learn everything you can about breeding - This site is an excellent source of information http://www.learntobreed.com/Learn THEN Breed or have them both fixed if you don't want to bother learning how to do it right.

Ok.....the gestation period for dogs is approx 63 days but I'm concerned that you're ready to go ahead with breeding a litter before you realise all the facts ( its good that you asked though). I have had dogs and bred several litters over 35 yrs. The age of the female dog is something you have to take into consideration. You say she is over 1 yr old but it depends on how much over 1yr and also on her breed. Many breeds are definately not mature enough to have puppies until they are approx 2 yrs old. It's like asking a puppy to have puppies. I dont mean to be unkind but you need to have all the facts...I wholeheartedly recommend talking to your vet, or reading some books on dog breeding. Hope this helps you.

The average for any dog to have puppies is 63-65 days, and if you will talk to your vet they will tell you that it is best to wait until they are about 2 years of age or at least after your female has had no less then 2 heats already. I know everyone is getting on you about no breeding but if you know ppl that want some of your puppies and you are prepared to spend some serious time finding them all good homes then go for it! It is your own personal decision, just please if at all possible dont let those babies go to shelters or uncaring homes! (but im sure you know this already Also just a helpful hint when you get close to the due date a good rule of thumb to know when your pups are coming is that moms temp will drop, most dogs run about 100 and when they start dropping to around 97 or 96 you dont have much time and should the temp go up or you start seeing green please call the vet ASAP! GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR DOGGIES!!

YOU NEED to educate yourself before you would ever consider breeding, over a year old is not old enough! You need to make sure they are at a healthy age to reproduce not to young and not to old. You also need a good vet to certify that they are healthy, do not carry bad genes and that you are prepared for the expense of mom and pups should something go wrong. And you should have money set back for the pups and their shots and worming. And make sure you have a few good homes lined up if the breeding takes.
