Pantech Duo Help Please?

I never deleted my text messages so now I have like over a 1000 messages and its telling me that my storage card is almost full and it wont let me send any more messages.When I try to delete them they come back when I turn off my phone. I deleted all 1000 but after my phone was turned off and back on they were back? How can I delete them and make them stay gone?
