Default Replacing Sagem Sky Router With Linksys?

My Sagem Sky wireless router is faulty, and due to a complicated mess up with Sky I have decided to give up and buy my own. Can anyone tell me whether the Linksys WRT54G2 will work instead? I appreciate there may be a few tweaks here and there to get it working, but I have had so much hassle with Sky, any replacement (and time spent doing so) is fine by me!

It would if you have a separate modem from Sky.

It wont work normally, sky wont let you use your own router with their service.... Normally that is. There is 2 things you can do, Ring them up and tell them that the router doesnt power up at all, and they will send you a new router.

If you want to use your own router you will need the login details that sky wont give you so you will need to find them out yourself, they are on the bottom of the router. On the bottom of the router you will see mac address and it will be like XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX and you will also see S/N and it will be a long string of characters.

The linksys will ask you for a username and password for your isp,

So your username will be the mac address, when you type the mac address in, put @skydsl.com at the end of it so it ends up XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX@skydsl.com

and the password will be what you see beside S/N

but be careful if you ever ring tech support again, make sure you change the linksys for a sky router, as its against their terms and conditions to use your own router, I shouldnt have really told you how to do it but, i dont work for them anymore so they cant discipline me lol.
