if you want to mate one just put a female in the same bowl. we did that and the girl fish got pregnant. but if the betas appear to be kissing then put them in separate bowls because when they do that because one is suffocating the other.

I don't think you can mate bettas because when they are placed with other bettas, they fight and kill eachother. On the other hand, you can actually put a betta fish in a tank with other fish besides another betta. There shouldn't be 2 bettas in 1 fish tank together. The betta should only be with fish that aren't aggressive. Try and pick calm fish like guppies and garami's. We currently have a betta in a huge fish tank with all our other fish and it does great. We have guppies, garamis, ram fish, knife fish, small fish like that. None are agressive and they all seem to get along with eachother fine.

Hope that helps! =]

Betta's are very full of themselves, therefore they will hate fish that are prettier than they are such as other betta's and fancy guppies.

Betta's will live quite peacefully with platey's and sword tails. Also, keep them away from aggressive and semi-aggressive fish.

i went against all odds and put a male beta in my guppy tank. 10 gallon, 4 guppies and a betta. Has worked for about a month and they get along fine.

You could take your chances but they do well with mollies and swordtailes.

As to breeding, i have no clue
