Default My 6 month old has bright red palms and feet....?

I just picked her up from daycare and her palms and soles are bright red - I was shocked when I entered the room and asked if she had gotten into anything as it looks like she got red dye on them. They said she hadn't and that she'd been talking and smiling for over an hour. She still is happy - she doesn't seemed to be as bothered by it as I am! My drs office has closed for the day and I didn't want to bother the on-call just yet. Like I said she seems to be doing just fine - just wondering if anyone has any idea of what this might be?Well it's been almost an hour that we've been home. It has gotten better - but not completely gone. She is still doing great - smiley and happy - just ate dinner. I think we'll wait until tomorrow to call the dr - unless she starts acting funny tonight. Thank you all for your help. She is pretty sensitive to a lot of things so she may have just touched something. Thanks!

That is strange. Have you tried washing them to see what happens? She could be coming down with some kind of rash. Or maybe she did get into something and day care works didnt relaze anything. But that is just strange to me. I would watch her for a while and see what happens if she suddnely starts to change I would get her to a docter asap! Good luck!

Well, I would say it's either psoriasis or baby eczema, but it isn't following the typical scenario with those - so you can probably be sure those two common skin ailments aren't it.Psoriasis shows up as small red dime-size spots on the arms or legs. Eczema almost always starts on the face or body and is patchy. The hands and feet, being more exposed to the elements, usually get aired out enough so they are last afflicted in those cases... or first afflicted by outside elements! So it sounds like the baby had to have encountered something that she reacted to. It may not even be a bad thing, just she's allergic to it.Perhaps they used a rug cleaner that the baby reacted to? Try to find out everything that the baby comes in contact with at the daycare and what cleaners they have used recently - the doctor may need that list (and you may need to ask them to use less harsh cleaners). Did they feed her a food she hasn't had before? If the baby is not upset, then you can wait until tomorrow for the doctor. If you have a digital camera, take pictures of how bad it is now so you can compare that with picture of how bad it is tomorrow (don't trust your memory and you can show the doctor what you were talking about if it gets better).

That's a hard one especially since she can't tell you if it's bothering her. Does her hands or feet feel waxy? It could be anything from the heat to ezcema....It sounds like she's having a reaction to something. Not to alarm you, but bright red hands and feet is definitely not normal and could be the first signs of a bigger problem. I only say this because I know someone who had something just like this happen. It started with bright red palms and soles of her feet, then starting feeling waxy, then itching, then she starting getting little spots which looked like prickly heat. Her condition is extremely rare and I'm not suggesting your daughter has it, but rather than speculate, if it doesn't go away soon or your daughter starts acting bothered I would take your daughter to the family doctor or even a dermatologist. I hope it starts clearing up.....it's so frustrating when something happens to a little one and they can't speak. Hope this helps and good luck.
