I currently have Golden Cane Palms acting as a screen from the neighbours in my garden. I am looking to inject some colour and wanted to know what tropical plants will grow under them?The garden receives plenty of sun although the palms shade the bed I am wishing to plant in, also the soil is pretty sandy.Any suggestions ?

Golden Cane palms generally require a lot of upkeep - removing dead fronds etc. so I wouldn't plant anything too precious where you'll walk or need access.If there's shade, you could try impatiens - colourful, self seeding, shade loving and will survive in the difficult area around golden cane roots. Also spider plants (chlorophytums), spathiphyllums, diffenbachia and philodendrons.Don't know where you live, but hope this helps. : )
