Do you have to use a headset with the Palm Treo?

I really want a Smart Phone and the Palm Treo (680) looks like a fantastic little device, the only thing is, if it requires a headset I'd rather not use it. I'm in college and you just don't see many college students walking around with them. Also, I think it's silly since I rarely receive actual phone calls anyway and I really want the Treo for the QWERTY and easy-browsing capabilities.
