when you strum, you put the back of your hands against the end of the string to give the not a congested sound.

lightly resting your hand on the strings, not putting full pressure except for the fingers needed for the chord needed.

How much do you know about the guitar? Palm-muting is laying your strumming hand on the strings close to the bridge (laying lightly will do) and continuing to play that way. It's a very distinct sound. If your not sure what the bridge is, it's that metal or wood thing that the strings are connected to on the body
