So does PalmOS. I'd say they have roughly the same amount of apps. PalmOS has about 10,000 apps, some of which are also free. That's assuming his Treo doesn't run Windows Mobile rather than PalmOS, but even then he has a fair amount of applications to chose from. The difference of course is that the iPhone platform has momentum, while PalmOS is being terminated by Palm.
The types of apps in general are different though, iPhone apps tend to be entertainment apps., while most of the PalmOS ones are practical. Especially in the PIM and medical fields, it is still unmatched by any mobile platform due to it's PDA heritage.
