because of the way you use them, they are always being rubbed on, thus the darker skin cells are always being rubbed off.

same with the bottom of your feet

I don't know the science behind this, but I can only presume the melanin which provides skin color is absent in palms. You'll notice people of all elasticities pretty much have palms the same skin color as Caucasians have everywhere else.
