Default Guitar Palm Muting Help?

Well if you listen to bands like A Day To Remember or Devil Wears ***** you'll know they do a lot of breakdowns which is usually just open palm muted notes on the low E and A strings or low E, A, and D. They usually make the breakdowns like a beat ya know, like sixteenth, eighth, and half notes and stuff all mixed together. My question is when I try to do this and palm mute and try to do the breakdowns it sounds bad, like in their songs and covers I've heard it sounds powerful and heavy. When I do it it sounds sloppy and just not good. Is it my technique, amp, guitar?

I have an Ibanez RG series, and just a small 15 watt line 6 amp. I'm trying to make heavy metal music myself and my number one concern are the breakdowns. How do I make them sound better?

It sounds like you just need practice. Palm muting isnt as easy as people make it sound or look. If it's any technique problem, its probably how you're holding the pick.

It really isn't that hard to learn. Just keep practicing.

Personally, I use a 10 band eq which gives it a really thick sound when palm muting. Likely, it wouldn't sound as good with a 15 watt practice amp.
