Hey E H,There is some mix up in the name. The first web site below gives 'Dypsis lutescens' as the botanical name for the common name of Butterfly Palm.Perhaps you can verify the identity by looking at the pictures. For Care, Be sure you have drainage. The things that are affecting your palm all at once are: Transportation; Transplanting; Shock; Soil; Nutrients ; WateringThese things alone could be easy to discuss. All at once will be a little difficult. Look at the soil you added in the new pot. Was it Miracle Grow for Vegtables? If so, repot it with a mix made for palms. Palms do not like so much nitrogen.Does you new pot have adequate drainage? You should have watered it once, then let it dry out. When you water it, the water should come through the holes in the bottom. From the description on the leaves - I think either too much nitrogen, or standing water. But it could just be shock; what light was it in where you got it from? What temp are you keeping it at? Warmer is better.

Hi there, the brown tips and drying out sound like a lack of humidity. Do you mist the plant? Do you have central heating as this would dry the plant out, misting it regularly would combat the central heating.Have a read of this link, the black spots sound like too much flouride in the soilhttp://mrec.ifas.ufl.edu/Foliage/folnotes/areca.htmGood luck
