it depends on quality and size but its a semi-precious not a precious stone, we use to sell little nice nuggets of it for $4 they were rough cut but nice. Look at the Metaphysical shops

Garnet is used in a lot of industrial sanding and grinding applications which will affect the cost a lot more than some other factors. It's all supply and demand, if there's a lot around, it's cheap, if it's scarce, it's expensive.

The price for garnet can vary considerably. If you bought it in a shop/jewelry store then you are probably paying too much. If you bought some from a market then it depends on the person selling it and where you are. If you find it, then its free. Garnets are quite common in some areas so prices are relative to site availability, quality and size. I have a 20mm rough red garnet that I bought in Thailand for $10USD. But I have also seen gem quality cut stones there for less than that. But I have also seen faceted stones in rings sell for $100's.You can also buy garnet sand (

This question is like asking "How long is a piece of string?"Firstly you must realize that garnet is not a single stone but a whole family of stones which have the same basic formula but with different metals in them. Not only are there the various types but many of these types are found as mixtures in nature. The most common types are pyrope and almandine these tend to be very cheap starting at a few cents per carat, however large, clear stones with an attractive colour can command much higher prices. The more rare types of garnet can be very costly indeed, the green demantoid garnet can reach prices of many thousand dollars per carat for larger stones.Sorry if this has not really answered your question but with all stones there is a wide range of prices depending not only on the quality but on how rare the stone is as well.
