The Burn is problem hasnt really been a problem for about three years. At the begining there were issue with sports and video games due to static images that were constantly in the same place, same with widescreen. The problem is that these pixel were never actually burnt. Each Pixel has a life span, on a 2008 Panasonic Plasma its about 100,000 hours. If a pixel holds a brightness for a long period the life of that pixel is shortened more than the pixel around it causing Screen Retention "Burn in", basicaly those pixels are not as bright as the other pixels and a ghost image appears.
There are two main features that have been added.
- The ability to change color (White/Gray/Black) of the side bars (Only for 4:3)
- Forgive me for not remembering the name but the second feature actually shifts the picture from pixel to pixel to keep a static pixel from being kept lit. Basically, moves 1 pixel left then 1 pixel up then 1 pixel right, then 1 pixel down to where it started. This is not noticable by the human eye as its not that big of change and happen a few times a sec.
These changes help with retention, a widescreen movie should not cause any problem, unless you watch nothing but widescreen movies for a few months and never have video in top or bottom of picture.
Another feature is the wipe bar that has been added to the user menu, you can run this to have all pixel even out and have your picture quality be the same on all pictures.
Hope this helps
