Default Connecting Laptop To Plasma Panasonic TH42PX80U ?

I purchased a Panasonic 42px80u plasma screen television recently and am having difficulty connecting my laptop or desktop to it. Unfortunately it doesn't come with a VGA port. I have tried VGA to Component connectors without success. Apparently there are two types of Component?

My computers don't have hdmi either.

What connector do I need to get my laptop/desktop talking to this specific television?

Thanks In advance.

You could use s-video if your laptop has it but the quality isn't as good as vga , i also think that you can get vga to hdmi converter, heres one on ebay , although a bit expensive

Other than that i cant really think of any other connections.

Default VGA to HDMI

A VGA to HDMI will be your best option, but you must connect to the front HDMI port on the TV. The front HDMI has a diffent voltage applied to allow this type of connection. There is a adaptor to hookup in the back that "can" be sent if you call the Panasonic Call Center 1-800-211-PANA

What pansonic told me is that this "adapter" is a regular HDMI repeater available at some local electronics stores or online

This issue exists because of limited HDMI video system on the PX80u. This is a budget plasma and Panasonic never designed this TV for PC use. Panasonic makes special note of this in the manual, several reviews confirm this. The front HDMI jack can accept the higher voltage DVI signal, but the rear jacks cannot (Actually they can but the TV won't turn on with DVI attached.) An HDMI repeater most likely repeats the interchangable DVI/HDMI signal and regenerates the proper HDMI power that the TV will accept. That means that some receivers and HDMI switches could also solve the issue.

As a PX80u owner I can't say I reccomend this TV for PC connectivity even if you can make the rear DVI work. It has limited video resolution support and all square 4:3 images are streched to 16:9 and you cannot fix this. It also overscans and this also cannot be corrected so the start menu or apple menu gets cut off.

Finally, even though this has nothing to do with DVI... it's lack of a VGA port really becomes an issue if you want to hook a laptop without DVI/HDMI. S-Video can work with most web quality video, but makes browsing and text tough if not impossible.
