Only the $5000.00 Pioneers rate better than the Panasonic, ( $899.00 for a 42 ) near my house. I bought a 50 plasma Viera 2.5 years ago and its been great but I have it in a room with very little light from windows etc. I can see that reflective light would be a problem with the glossy screen. It actually uses less power than the 36 tube TV that I had previously. Never seen anything that looks like burn it (?) (myth or resolved) I doubt plasma will ever disappear, I'll worry about it if LCDs ever manage to duplicate the true black and high contrast that a plasma can do. Although they are getting closer
