Default How to reduce noice on Panasonic Lumix FZ28 pictures ?

Hi All!

i've been experimenting with my new camera, the Lumix FZ28, a lot lately but I'm very disappointed when it comes to the level of noise the images produce. I am aware of ISO settings (keep it as low as possible) and try to shoot in the right conditions, but every shot I make (even with a tripod) contains too much noise.. It's really frustrating!... Does anyone have any ideas about how to reduce noise - not during processing in PS but while taking the picture?

THNX !!

Like any digital camera with a CCD sensor, the FZ28 only has one native gain, which is ISO 100. Deciding on the best set of compromises to minimize noise with a CMOS camera is very complicated. For you, it's easy:

1. Always shoot at ISO 100. All higher ISOs are mathematically derived, and there is virtually no benefit to using one of them versus underexposing ISO 100 (unless you shoot in JPEG).

2. Expose to the right. If the camera meters for 5 seconds, and you can take a 10 second exposure without clipping the RAW highlights, do it.

3. Stack images. When you average four identical pictures, you are literally collecting four times as many photons. This has a dramatic effect on noise. Recognize situations where you can use the technique. Use it when you do.

Good luck!

I will also add that you will have considerably more noise if you shoot in low light. If shooting outside in good light then you should not have a lot of noise problems (there will still be more noise than if you were shooting with a DSLR for example, but it will still be an acceptable amount).

If you are shooting in low light or indoors then the noise levels in a camera such as yours will increase dramatically. The sensor is just too small to be adequate at light gathering.
