I'm buying a 42 Panasonic plasma TV for gaming more than anything....and I'm down to deciding on 720 vs. 1080. I was told for plasma, AND for PS3 purposes, 1080 is the way to go. But I was told that by sales people so I wasnt sure. I've read at 42 1080 and 720 are pretty much identical but I want an opinion from some people who have first hand, real world experience. So whatcha think?

1080p is the equalivant of 1024x768















720p is the equalivant of 800x600































If you are going to buy a television for gaming, I would consider the console in which you are purchasing. If you are buying a Playstation3, I suggest buying a HDTV made by Sony. I suggest this because they'll probably design their TV's to bring out the potential of their graphic software/hardware.































Another thing to consider is the size of the TV, because the bigger the tv, the bigger the pixels on the TV. You want your pixels to be small, so that your games will not look blocky. I would say a 40in tv would be just fine. If you are looking for the best hd experience possible, I would go for a 40inch.































I wqould also suggest you get a LCD, because Plasma's have a tendancy to get incredibly hot, and they do not last as long.

Depends what games you are buying. About 2/5 PS3 games play natively in 1080p, the rest 720p.































But you have to remember that a 1080p television will also be able to play 720p, the 720p will only ever have 720 as its max resolution. Games that do support 1080 do look marginally better than the same game in 720, but after about 10 mins into a game you wont really notice the difference since the framerate stays the same.
