I think either camera is capable but I would go for the Canon. That said, you are going to find out that lighting is more important than camera choice for weddings. I have seen some really horrendous wedding shots from inside churchs and reception halls that have shadows from using on camera flash only. Wedding photography takes a lot of thought to do properly. I personally have never done any weddings but I think a little training is appropriate here.

Both cameras are capable of producing qualtiy images. But if you're shooting weddings for money, the brand of camera will be the least of your worries.Don't go down that road without plenty of experience. HTHV

For snapshots taken as a guest either will be fine. For paid wedding photography, you're kidding, right? The Panasonic is in no way suitable for shooting weddings as a paid (or even free) photographer. The Rebel with a decent lens (not the kit lens) would do nicely enough. The camera, $500. The knowledge....priceless.
