is your baby exclusively bottle fed? if so, i'm sure at 6 months you can at least use number 2... but if he's also breastfeeding, maybe stay with number 1 for another month or so.

What flow rate of teat should I use for my baby?

Babies are unique. What suits one baby may not suit another. Philips AVENT bottles are fitted with Slow flow teats as standard. Other available options are:

Newborn flow: 1 hole, suitable for breastfed and/or premature babies

Slow flow, 2 holes: slightly faster flow than Newborn flow

Medium flow: 3 holes, for 3 months & older

Fast flow: 4 holes, for 6 months & older

Variable flow: with a slot instead of holes, for 3 months onwards

If you find your baby becoming unhappy or tired during feeding, or if the feeding sessions regularly seem to be taking much longer than before, these may be signs that you need to move up to the next flow rate. Don't worry if you never change flow rates or if you change flow rates frequently. Some babies need different flow rates at different times of the day. Some babies eat vigorously at the beginning of a feed and then slow down at the end.

BTW, I use Avent Naturally and my daughter was bouncing back and forth between the size 2 and 3 at 6 months. Now, when she will take a bottle she only takes gthe size 3 - fast flow. (SHe is in a phase right now where she wants to drink out of a regular cup. No sippy, no nipple/teat, just a cup!)

at 6 months size 2 or 3 is suitable for them, size 1 is normally from birth - 3 months, size 2 is 3-6 months and size 3 is 6+ months.

I am from the UK, in all honesty I never wasted money in changing teats, you can always buy variflo which allows baby to choose the speed the milk comes out but i always found my kids used to choke on them. my kids were on stage 1 teats till they were off bottles (my daughter at 2 yrs and my son is 1 and still on them) it doesnt really affect them.

Or you can do what my dad did with his 1st boy (same age as my daughter) he just got a needle and made the holes a bit bigger.

But, if you want to go up to size 2 it is okay to do so at your childs age.

Hope ive helped!

Well according to the nipples, it says you can switch to size two after 1 month, and then to size 3 after 3 months, etc. By 6 months your child could be using size 4 if they're comfortable with it. My son always liked the slower flow better though, so we moved up slowly and stayed on size 2 til he was probably 8 months... then he was on size 4 by 9 months. There's nothing wrong with keeping him on a size 1, it'll just make feedings go faster if he's on a faster flow nipple... also good to make the adjustment if you see your little one becoming frustrated with feeding times.

(I'm not from the Uk, but we also used the same bottles)
