The model Number you are referring to ln46a550 is a samsung model number.I would personally buy the samsung or even if you were looking at a sony over the phillips. Sony and Samsung have better black levels which will provide a richer more vivid picture in comparison to the philips. Also depending on the price of these two sets look at the samsung ln46a650 120hz touch of color option by samsung because at best buy this week it is 1499.99 that 600 dollars off the regular price and is the number one lcd tv on the market
