Default I have recently bought a Philips DVP5982 player. When I am playing a video

it just randomly shuts off.? Sometimes it is just after like 20 minutes other times it will be within 5 minutes. Is there any problem that could be causing this or is the player just bad and I need to return it?

It may be getting to hot, it must have 4 inchaes on all sides of the DVD player for normal function.

I pulled up Philips support heres what it said:

If device will not power on of powers off without command:

Press the STANDBY ON button on the front of the DVD system to turn on the power.

If the device powers on at the unit and not the remote, the unit may have been turned off with TV selected as the source on the remote.

The standby button on the remote will operate most Philips TV?s when TV is selected as the source. Change the source to disc or any other source than TV on the remote.

To completely reset the player, unplug the AC cord from the AC outlet for 15 seconds.

If device performs undesired power off:

Check temperature of Device (does it feel very hot?).

Do not place the set in a closed cabinet, allow about 10 cm (4 inch) of free space all around the player for adequate ventilation.

If problems persist-contact Philips at www.philips.com
