Dvd minus r or plus for a Philips spd2412t dvd ram ?

No idea how to find this out.It has just ejected a dvd minus r after trying to back up my sons dvd for him.Any help would be very much appreciated, don't really know what i'm doing ! Thankyou.

Are you sure the disc was empty before backing up the DVD or is the DVD copyrighted and the program has refused to back it up! If you have carried out this procedure before without any problem then I am at a loss but there will be someone with more knowledge than myself answering shortly!
