purple X's mean that it is dead? I am talking about the strip on the battery itself, right next to the metal contact strips, do the purple X's only appear when the battery is dead and no longer usable?ok well my old battery had the purple X's and wasn't working so I purchased a new battery and it has the purple X's as well, and my phone still won't turn on. Do the batteries stop working once they come in contact with water, and if not then why won't my phone power on?

NO. The strip with the X's on them are water damage indicators. If you put water on that strip, it will turn solid red..indicating that water got on it.
