Default My car shuts off whenever I put it on reverse or when making sharp turns to

L/R. What's wrong? My Ford Explorer 99 overheated because of a leaking waterpump. The moment it overheated it started first with a rattling noise when stepped on the gas and silenced when released the gas. I noticed the temp gauge going up and down in about 20-30 secs intervals, from normal to H to normal again. After 2 or 3 minutes the gauge suddenly went all the way to H and the engine shut itself off. I waited 5 minutes during which time no smoke came out from under the hood. When I opened the hood, saw just a little vapor, not from radiator, but seemed like from the engine. Poured some water in radiator, but the car wouldn't start. Towed it home. Installed a new water pump, sparkplugs and wireset. It first started with difficulty, and a lot of white smoke came out from exhaust, not like burning but more like vapor, and also some liquid (water?). Now the car starts & runs but sounds iffy, hesitating and shuts off when put on reverse or making sharp turns to L/R. Whats wrong? Bad calibrated sparkplugs?

It could be cheap spark plugs, it could be many things. I would take it to a reputable repair facility and have them put it on the scanner and see what's going on. Most shops do this with no obligation for an hours labor. This way you will pinpoint the problem rather than throwing parts at it and crossing your fingers hoping it fixes it.

You have a blown head gasket. You are pumping water in to the cylinders. You might of by the sound of it warped the heads. Take to a Mech.ASAP

It sounds like you're blown your head gasket - this is suprisingly common after overheating. The coolant sounds like it's leaking into the cylinders, causing it to run rough and wet the plugs and then pushing the vapour through the exhaust pipe.

Might try to replace the ignition switch located in the steering column.
