...want sharp close ups of a child??? Any tips on what settings I should use to achieve this???

Really depends on your lighting. Is it outdoor or indoor? And the child, is he running? Moving around? Or will he just pose for you?For nice, creamy background blur is best for you to use big apertures. Eg, f2.8. Make sure you have enough available light, if not compensate it by bouncing a 580EX ll. Low ISO for less noise.All the best.
