Default I have sharp pains after breastfeeding, can anyone relate?

After breastfeeding my 3 wk old, I get sharp shooting pains into my breast. I have gone to the dr, and there is no infect, it is not thrush, but I have had plugged ducts on that side before. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on how to relieve the pain? It is unbareable and I lay in bed and cry on several nights and days. Please help!

Warm compress throughout the day, frequent cluster feeding on that one side (pump the other so you don't get engorged), and gentle massage. I had the same issue after DD was born. Try to get baby to feed in a position that puts the chin in line with where it hurts. Don't ask doctors about it, most have NO clue about what is going on. Talk to a lactation consultant or La Leche League Leader - they will have FAR more knowledge about breastfeeding issues than a doc will.

Totally agree with Shadowkitty. I had that happen and it was because baby wasn't latched correctly. I was in tears and had to quit. I have also had plugged duct with fever and delirium that comes with it. I was sooo glad I had my pump. That and warm compresses were the only things that got me through it. Definitely get an experienced lactation consultant to check the latching. Don't wait! Good luck!

Read this:Blanching due to vasospasmVasospasm, which is more severe, is a sudden constriction/narrowing of a blood vessel (in the nipple, in this case) that is extremely painful. It might occur a short time after nursing or in between nursings. Vasospasm can have various causes: Vasospasm can be a secondary response to pain or nipple trauma (damaged nipples or thrush). In this case, the nipple(s) turns white shortly after nursing (rather than coming out of baby's mouth white and misformed). Mom might notice a white circle on the face of the nipple a few seconds to a few minutes after breastfeeding. Cold often triggers the vasospasm and/or makes it worse. Unlike blanching due to compression, latch and positioning may be fine if the source of any nipple damage has already been fixed. Healing the nipple trauma or other source of pain should eliminate the vasospasms, although they may persist for a short time after the nipple has healed (previously damaged tissue can remain sensitive for a time).

Yea i had that! I think its the letdown( themilk fillin gup again!)Its can be crampy or sharp...Having a new baby is hard enough without feeling scared!!Dont stress.... Try a warm heartpack on them before u feed... might make it all a bit smoother.. and then maybe after as well
