Sharp recurring kidney pains.?

For the last month and a half I have been getting sharp very painful stabs of pain over my kidneys. At first I just thought it was back pain from work, but over the last two weeks I believe I am developing a UTI. Would kidney pain come before any other symptoms???

Kidney stones

Although probably rarer, there are such things as bladder stones. They are a result of incomplete discharge. Of course, it could be kidney stones too.
