12 weeks pregnant, I have been experiencing alot of cramping, and a sharp pain...

...on my right side. ? I still have not heard the baby's heart beat or had any ultrasound, because on my last appointment i was only seven weeks. My next appointment is on tuesday. Is the sharp pain and cramping normal? This is my first pregnancy so am not really sure what is normal and what is not

If you are ever in doubt, get yourself checked out!

I don't know where you are from, but here in Aus we have nurse on call, or 13 health. They are two numbers we have that are 24 numbers attended by nurses, who can give you health advice over the phone. If you have one of these where you are, give them a call at least, if you cant get into your doctor.
