Well this depends if it is lower belly or lower pelvic. It is a proven fact that 8 out of 10 women expierience menstul cramps the day before or the day they start their period. Also 5 out 10 women develpe these things called ovarian cist, which is a cist that forms on your ovary detaches and then finally burts relesing liquid that can be very painful. You can actully devolope these cists anytime of the month. If I were you if the pain gets extremely bad go to the Emergency room or see your doctor asap because if it happens to be a cist and it doesnt deattach from your ovary when it burts it is highly possible that your ovary will burst right along with it. I have something called endometriosis this causes me to have very very painful cist form on my ovary like I said any time of the month. This is a very evil pain in your lower stomach or pelvic area it is also possible to only form these cists on one side. So if your lower right pelvic area hurts and the left feels normal thn this is most likely what you are going through. It can also form on both at the same time. It is very very very common for a woman to have cramps during her period but you should research endometriosis and PMDD those are illnesses that can cause very sharp pains before during and after your period. After you research and get a little more information on these illnesses if you are having symtoms of either one I would suggest seeing your OB or a doctor right away so if you are forming cists they can try to control it with medication.
