Default Sharp Ankle Pain?

It's been a year since I severely sprained my left ankle (softball size swelling with bruises all over my foot up to my shin and i couldn't walk on it for almost 3 weeks). Now I get occasional very sharp pains in the ankle but they've become frequent. I took an x-ray to see if I had any fractures I didn't know about when it happened but my bone conditions were alright.Could it just be that it hasn't healed properly or could it be something more serious?

Maybe you should go to the doctor? It could be something serious.I suggest every time you get a sharp pain, mark it down on a calendar or something that you won't loose, then you can bring it to your doctors. Also, try to keep track of what it's like, and how long it lasts for. That will help, and it WILL help the doctor immensely. I hope everything is okay, and good luck!

Sometimes sprains take longer to heal than breaks. It could be arthritis, sometime it settles in a weak area. Is it swollen? If so take Advil. Not all x-rays reveal problems, sometimes they are just there. Maybe an ultrasound? Good Luck!

Call your doctor and see about getting an MRI. X-rays only show damage to the bones, but the MRI would show any soft tissue damage that you might have.

You problably have a torn ligament or tendon from it. You may need and MRI to show this.
