Sharp spasms in front ankle through calf?

For the past week I have been having persistant sharp stabbing spasms in my ankle in the front which go up into my calf. Nothing makes it better. Dr couldn't seem to give an explanation for it. Has anyone else had this? Any suggestions to get rid of it? They last for a few seconds but they are very painful. They come about every 4 minutes and get worse as the day goes on.
