I have searched various places, but do you need to pay in order to use T-mobile's EDGE? How about wi-fi? (For the Shadow phone, or other smartphones)Another question I have is: Is the EDGE network THAT much better than the 3G network? How much of an actual speed difference is there. I am thinking about getting the T-mobile Shadow Phone by HTC, but I'm still not sure because of the EDGE and etc.

EDGE is just an enhanced version of T-Mobiles GPRS data network. It bumps the data speeds from 40-50 kbps for GPRS to 80-90 Kbps for EDGE (real world scenario). You don't neccessarily have to pay extra to use the EDGE network (as long as it is available in your area), but you would have to have a data plan associated with your services.
