If I install verizon DSL wireless router are there any conflicts I should be

aware of with windows XP on a HP. I had problems with conflicts in the past with verizon software. I have a 2004 HP with a 20g HD, and a 937mghz CPU and 256K of ram memory. I want to install the verizon wireless router and the software but would like to know if there will be any conflicts that I don't know about. Appreciate anyone's previous experience with verizon and\or experience with HP computers. I already have video gliches, slowness on the internet due to dial up. Any input would be greatly apprciated.

Is it really required to have the software installed? I know setting up AT&T DSL requires the software, but after the DSL is activated, it's no longer needed.
