Verizon purchased Alltel, now what about the cell phones?

Since Verizon purchased Alltel, will Alltel customers have the same choice of cell phones as a Verizon customer currently has and vise versa? I'm curious as to know because honestly Alltel could have bit better selection of phones. I am still unsure as to why they do not have a better selection as other carriers do, *ahem* AT&T.
