Default Do I have to pay for a new phone after my Verizon Wireless 2-year contract is up?

Okay, first of all, where can I go to check when exactly my contract expires?

More importantly, however, I was wondering, once my 2-year contract expires, how much do I have to pay to get a new phone? I've heard some people say it's free, others say you pay the difference between the new phone and your old phone, and I'm just not sure. Help? Thanks.

And yeah, I know I don't *need* to get a new phone, I just want one. Specifically the Droid.

you can open an account on the Verizon website. There you can see all of your information. As long as your phone is working fine, all you need is to renew your service. No new phone is necessary.

No and yes,

If you get a new phone that costs someting (not one of those free with contract phones) then yes.

If you keep your old phone you dont have to. I mean you can get a free one for a backup incase your main one breaks. just switch the sim cards

Go to myverizon.com. You may have to send them an email asking when your contract is up. Make sure you really want or need a new phone before you buy one because doing this will automatically renew your contract for 2 more years. You don't have to buy a new one to keep the service you can just go on a non contract basis. I learned this the hard way. I thought my phone was stolen and went and got a replacement one. I did not know this renewed my contract and I went to cancel my service last week and was told I would have to pay an $85.00 break contract fee. My husband has not gotten a new phone in 4 years and he is not on a contract but still has service.
